Here is an interview with Justin D Jacobson, founder and owner of Blue Devil Games and all things Dawning Star. We talked about the beginnings of Dawning Star and where it is going with a surprise announcement. He also talks about other important projects like say a new Jacobson which should be joining us any day now.

Okay folks. As break from format I am posting an interview with Lee Hammoc, the lead writer on Dawning Star. I talked to him about where he came from, where Dawning Star came from, and where it is going. I hope you folks enjoy it. It will hopefully be the first of a few such things.

This world is still a frontier world despite our technology and attempts to hold on to what has passed. Proof of this has come to us numerous times, but none quite so exciting as the very real presence of piracy. the reason for this report is of course the recent report that Domino Blackthorn has been listed by Ms. Rodgers in Rodgers Point as an enemy of the efl and a sizable bounty has been placed on her head.There are several pirates operating on the oceans of Eos. Perhaps the most infamous is Domino Blackthorn. This name which this reporter must assume is an assumed name for it is entirely to perfect to her profession has been striking ships along the waterways from New Dehili to Iron Scar to Sun City. The pirates use a combination of customized sailing craft and av's designed for speed and stealth. Domino Blackthorn has earned a reputation for her ability to avoid capture and the fact she tends to leave those she raids alive. There are of course others who are less scrupulous about the survival of their victims.  The large bounty offered by the EFL may have been do to a personal sailing ship belonging to Ms. Rogers being robbed last month. Or it may be the patrol boat sent after Ms. Blackthorn being sunk. Ms. Blackthorn has declined attempts to be interviewed. It can however be said than is often best judged by their enemies. Well, Ms. Blackthorn therefore is in good company. Welcome to the club.

There is news out of the Broken End settlement of a forced labor camp being sponsored by the local government. The camps were started two years ago as a solution of what to do with criminals. Since then,  the camp have grown slowly as a forced skilled and manual labor pool used by the government on public works and building facilities for the militia in the area.  The forced laborers are kept in check by draconian discipline enforced by their wardens and implants that prevent escape by offering the possibility of decapitation to those who try. The current forced labor force is believed to be in the neighborhood of 100 people. All of them are supposedly criminals arrested by the Broken End militia. Thomas Dillon, leader of Broken End, defended the program stating "the criminal needs to repay his burden to society." Meanwhile The condemnations coming from the Republic officials are strong. "This is glorified slavery!" were the words of Judge Bernie Hambly, superior court justice. The whole program being kept mostly quiet for two years and the accusations of abuse of the prisoners and rather loose criteria for someone being judged a criminal has made this one of the many new developments of late that has begun to drive a wedge between Dawning Star and the Broken End. 

The launch of the Totoro on it's diplomatic and exploration mission is scheduled for next month. The reports are the EFL will have something up within a couple of weeks of that launch. The sky has become contested ground it seems. The Dawning Star Republic emphasised that the mission primarily was to establish relations with our neighbors in the stellar neighborhood. It is a known fact that at least one planet in system has show signs of being inhabited by a race with limited spaceflight capability at least not counting the Tentari. The EFL is being closed lipped on their particular plans but it is believed they too will be seeking diplomatic relations. A memo from inside the Rogers administration also indicates a desire to find "resources of interest" to give a political and military advantage over the Dawning Star Republic. The next few months will be very interesting as we get the first reports of contact on the various worlds in the system.

In a related note,  a commission has been established to determine under what sort of circumstance the allowance for travel to these other worlds might take place once relations are established. The means for travel are obviously restricted for the most part but there are some privately owned craft which with some refitting that could conceivably travel between worlds. Most notably the facilities of Maximilian Dagos are more than capable of interplanetary travel. The commission will try and establish trade rules that should be enforced on the interplanetary trade involving Eos. The EFL of course have different point of view. They have a stated opinion that the individual tradesmen may set their own terms.

The astronomer Dr. Gil Packard released a paper today upon the study of NEO's or Near Eos Objects. This is a reclamation of the old term for Near Earth Objects. This is in other words a paper on the asteroids and meteors found in the planetary neighborhood. You may ask as to why this paper might be of interest to those outside the scientific community. Well, while it is a somewhat dry and technical piece it does have some startling findings. For one thing there is surprisingly few NEO's to be found. There are of course asteroids  in the system but almost none of them  intersect with Eos orbital path. The conclusion reached by Packard and his fellow researchers is that all of the naturally occurring objects of that type were deliberately destroyed or had their orbits changed. This is further evidence that the prior residents in this system were amazingly advanced. Packard even went so far as to theorize that it is likely that there may be facilities found in the asteroids that are found in system for mineral reclamation and the like. All in all an interesting study and can be gotten from the Dawning Star University press.

Officials in Rogers point today declined to answer questions concerning their impending and supposed space program. For weeks now there have been reports that experts are being sought to crew an exploration of the rest of the Helios system for the Factions. This was however being done somewhat in secret.  but now public announcements have been made making it clear this is their intention. Clearly this will be a bit of a problem for the faction camps, as finding people with the space experience needed and still loyal to Ms. Rodgers and the EFL is almost impossible. Still rumors persist this is just what they are doing. This, combined with the Eos Space Force putting together crews for their own exploration ships, seems to mean the disaster with the USS Cyclops disappearance has not stifled the need to explore but redoubled it.

The Bank of Dawning Star today will not confirm it had a massive electronic robbery of their bank last week. While they deny this there was certainly some significant activity at their headquarters since Tuesday. The only response they would give beyond their denial was that their data transmission was quantum encrypted and their data storage center was in " a very secure location" and the robbery such as described would be almost impossible. despite all the denials and explanation the evidence strongly suggests that a significant event did occur last Tuesday to the  banks data network. What that event was remains to be seen but be assured we will find out.

There was a shoot out in the small town of Eccleston 65 miles from Greenville. Reports are the gunfight was the culmination of a family feud between the Clayton and Raj families. The feud apparently started over a supposedly stolen Murcow. The Murcow went missing six months ago. The Claytons reported the theft to the local sheriff named Mike Sing. Sheriff Sing investigated but did not find anything tying it to the Raj family, but the Cantons were convinced they took it. Things became more heated when the Jack Clayton shot a Younis Raj for trespassing on their land. While the young Younis did live, this increased tensions between the two families. After several tense encounters over the last several months, the feud nearly turned into a war two days ago when six members of the Clayton family, including patriarch Isaac Clayton, opened fire on three members of the Raj family. The spark for this open violence is unclear but there is talk of it involving a romance between members of the two families.  At this time the two families have retreated to respective ranches. Two Claytons were shot in the shoot out and one died. All three of the Raj involved were hit but so far none have died, though Nic Raj is reportedly in various serious condition. Sheriff Sing has been denied entry into both ranches and has sent for a Republic Ranger to help calm things down.

 

There have been reports of Darkling sightings within 50 miles of Dawning Star itself.  At one time the darkling sightings were treated with a sense of amusement by those in the city. A quaint boogie man  that the farmers speak of. But with recent reports of children going missing and various other unpleasant tales becoming more common the reports of a darkling sighting outside  the small hamlet of Athens has been met with a strong response from the Republic Rangers and white knuckled fear from those who live there. The Republic has sent three rangers to investigate the sightings and seem to be ready to let them track this till strong evidence is found one way or another. Till then the citizenry waits in their fear.

 

Daxion arms today announced they had signed an exclusive deal to supply Broken End with weapon for their settlements defense force. The deal was struck after months of negotiations.  The Dawning Star republic when asked for comment, declined to comment on the deal but rumor has it that the republic is not pleased with the deal and see it as a move  by Broken End closer to siding with the Eos Freedom League. When asked about the move Thomas Dillon, leader of Broken End, stated he was making the deal because "a soldier needs the best weapons he  can get." A pragmatic man it seems.

 

The Eos Freedom league announced today they would be having a new conference next month at the resort settlement of Sun City. This political conference would be to discuss stronger trade agreements, joint defense, and space exploration efforts. Reportedly among those in attendance will be all of the leaders of every major faction camp as well as certain lead business figures on Eos. Sun City was chosen primarily because of its neutrality, but also the relaxing surroundings were certainly a factor in the decision. Captain Michael Hennessy, leader of the Sun City settlement was asked for comment on the announcement. He stated "I hope that they have fun and remain civil. The rest of it doesn't mean much to me."

To my gentle listeners who may have wondered where i was, to those who feared my death or capture at the hands of the nefarious, and to those who asked where I could have gone, I give you thanks and come to tell you I am alive. I have been involved in a sabbatical of sorts. While all the details may not be revealed for the safety of those who helped me, I will say i have learned many things. I learned one should not taunt those who chase you to much for they will find ways to be faster. I have learned that the wonders and mysteries of this planet are not so alien as we think. I have learned that Voltaire was right when said “Clever tyrants are never punished.�. I have learned there is something moving in the shadows. Sadly there are things I have learned and cannot prove or show. I lost many a compatriot in my journey and found it gave me the will to continue. They will not be forgotten. To Annabell, Bubbles, Dr. Park, and the others I say thank you and god speed.

It is the tragedies we all look to. So it is I must report upon the disappearance of the Cyclops and her crew last week while exploring the moon of Phaeton. The mission was routine for a full day before anything appeared to be amiss. At this time there is no indication what exactly happened. The team led by Cpt. Wells left the ship for an eva and explore on this almost featureless orb. Almost an hour later, approximately 11 hundred hours, they simply stopped sending telemetry or communication at all. The last sent telemetry indicated a sharp spike in their vitals as if frightened then no signal. Further visual inspection by the Ships sent by the Eos Space force found nothing. No ship. No bodies. No trace. Jack Richards the minister of space who strongly advocated this mission resigned today. He stated it was due to stress though undoubtedly the cabinet had pressured him to do so. It was announced yesterday that control of the further explorations would be held by the more militant Eos Space force. Gentle listeners i wish I could tell you the reason for the Cyclops disappearance. I wish i could give you some secret reason. But sadly life does not always have a reason. They were brave souls and our hearts go out to their families. Fly true my friends.

  Lt. Marcus Dubois of the EFL's scout team the Bonefishers, has reportedly turned down the invitation to the first annual eos unlimited martial arts tournament and symposium. The tournament has been organized to feature the best of the best in martial arts. Many traditional forms will be represented as well the few Martial arts that have evolved on Eos since the human occupation. Though not confirmed there is even talk of some Velin practitioners coming. The Zero G boxing prationers will demonstrate their form from orbit using a holographic projector to show the ground based audience. Of course Dawning star Kung Fu will be well represented by Shia Rober amoung others. The EFLSF Style, now somewhat infamous, was actually invited to participate but Lt. Dubois the head of the style declined to participate. He had issue with the tournament being held in dawning star for one thing. Also he stated"The only real test is life or death". A man of few words it seems.

The tournament organizers point to Lia Qian as a major sponsor of the tournament.

REports are out of the settlement of New Dheli that the local law enforcement has begun a crack down on the group known as Gadia Lohar. This goup of nomadic settlers has been accused of crimes all over the continent. This family oriented group has origins in the old earth nation of india. They have  refused to settle down in any permanent settlement and can be found traveling all over eos. Petty thefts and smuggling has been known to follow them. Mathew D'Souza, the head of the New Dheli police force announced that being a member of Gandia Lohar will be cause for a person to be classified as a "suspicious person". Strangely the Gandia Lohar have been seen often in the company of the Velin though their ties are unclear. Roger's point and Shakleton settlements also appear to be considering similar measures.

As an interesting note, it is always a good idea for a citizen of any government to see what its annual budget may be. This will tell you so many interesting things. For instance I did find myself in possession of the proposed budget for next fiscal year for the Dawning Star Republic. It has many interesting things in it. There is a 20% increase in budgeted moneys for the the controversial homestead project. This is the project which is trying to “civilize� the Velin. There is a nearly an 80% increase in funding for projects building power plants. This is interesting because we are already over capacity in many areas for power needs. One simply does not need so much centralized power when power generation by an individual is relatively cheap and easy. Another strange entry indicates a 50% increase in funding to the Southland Terraforming Project. This odd as most of the other terraforming projects are staying even in their annual budgets. There are even a couple getting cutbacks. Whats more Southland already gets more annual budgeted funds than half of the other Terraforming facilities combined. Very interesting indeed.

This is the dawning star oriented. Radio Free Eos. Show notes. Patricia Rogers today personally offered a reward to anyone with information leading to the return of the Eos Freedom Leagues prototype shuttle and the people responsible for its disappearance. The shuttle was stolen from a research and construction facility near Rogers Point. The prototype was meant as a proof of concept. It reportedly was the flagship of a whole new line of spacecraft being designed by the Eos Freedom League. Reportedly based on the hummingbirds basic design, EFL engineers claim to have made several advances over the designs used by the Dawning Star Republic. Indications are the prototype had performed well on test flights before it's theft. The engine redesign appears to have been based on studying an alien engine recovered from a wreck found on the bottom of the ocean near Roger's Point. Ms. Rogers was quoted as saying "Some clever little fella's felt they could steal from me. I am offering a full 100 pounds of gold to prove this wrong. I imagine I will hear from some one soon." Ms. Rogers was ever a subtle communicator. Daxion arms announced their new Longarm Rifles will continue to sell in the Dawning Star Republic despite bans on the weapons by the Republic. This weeks announcement by the department of security that Daxion Arms will not be allowed to sell in the republic due to the involvement of the CEO Neil Pritchard, in the "terrorist" group, The Freedom Band. The Freedom Band was known for its attacks on EDF patrol craft in the disputed regions. The embattled CEO stated the accusations are unfounded and the ban was a pointless throwing around of legal weight to gain political capital. Pritchard went on to say they would sell guns to any citizen brave enough to buy them. Maxamillian Dagos announced today he would be holding a charity ball on his spacecraft The Last Resort. The ball will undoubtedly be the social event of the year with all the wealthiest and most powerful members of Eos society circles. The proceeds from the charity ball will go to the Catholic Cheritable Trust. Pope Pious the XIII, who will be in attendance, was reportedly pleased with Maximilian's generosity. Mr. Dagos has on occasion been at odds with Pope Pious over the fact there are a number of artifacts and paintings of religious significance in the Dagos private collection. The Pope felt those artifacts should be made available to the public as inspirations to faith. Mr. Dagos however has not as of yet let the items in his collection leave his ship much less be seen by the public. The settlement of Red Hills has been producing reports since yesterday that the dead walk. The body of Mildred Powers was reported to have risen from the grave and attack a couple of locals. Mildred was supposed to have been buried two weeks prior, a victim of Julian Measles. The body was eventually subdued after repeated gunfire. The initial official reaction from Sherrif Meghan Peters was that it was an overblown incident involving some unruly drunks in the "bone orchard" as she called it. However later today a request for aid was sent out by the Mayor, Johan Seral. He and the leader of the local militia have both verified this incident is not isolated. They have had more reports of recently buried corpses rising and attacking people. Well it is a new world after all. The singer John Alben of Hapeville is dead. His revolutionary guitar work made him a favorite on the music scene and his painful and soulful vocals were often heard through out Eos. His song "Screaming Wind" about the life of an air runner has been at the top of the download charts for 6 weeks now. Alben, a former ari runner himself, had turned his experiences into music. He was killed this morning as his AV slammed at 300 miles per hour into a ridge north of Steel End. The cause for the crash at this point is unknown. He is survived by his wife Mary. As a follow up, out of the town of Harrison Flats we hear reports that all the children in the town have disappeared. You may remember this was the town where a number of children reported seeing and befriending a a "darkling". Initially assumed to be a collective imaginary friend as the adults of the town never saw the creature. The children yesterday all disappeared. The investigation indicates they all ran away on the same night. The citizens of Harrison Flatts have formed search parties. The mayor of Harrison Flats, Morgan Denan, has called for aid from Republic Rangers to help find the children. "The children have left no trace to follow. We need all the help we can get." Said Denan today. If anyone has any information available they should contact the mayors office in Harrison Flats. Republic Ranger, Phil Dubouis has returned. He was feared dead after he took after a couple of desperado's who attacked Kelvin family ranch. The two men had tied up and beaten the family then took all their valubles as well. Dubois rode after them in to the desert near Iron Scar. That was over a month ago. The lawman was declared missing and presummed dead after two weeks of searching by Fellow Rangers turned up nothing. Ranger Dubois arrived back in iron Scar last night with the two suspects in two. All were in bad shape due to exhaustion and thirst but tthe ranger turned over his quary to the custody of the local jail. When asked about the ordeal all Dubois said was "Nuts, they aint made a critter I cant find and bring down." The ranger will reportedly return to his patrols later this week. Welcome back Phil.
